Help is available

As we approach the end of term and deadlines loom, there is lots of help available in the Learning Centre. Don't forget that you can contact the Information and Help Desk if you are having problems accessing any resources. Just a quick reminder that one-to-one information skill sessions, to discuss anything to do with using library or information services, are available. The form is available here. Please remember to include your name and course information though! I've had a couple of requests this week without them and I don't know who to get back to!

If you're not on campus...

I know lots of you are heading off on placement now and that many more of you work from home more than on campus. There are lots of electronic resources available to you off campus, including ejournals, ebooks and databases. For more advice on accessing these resources, go to http://www.yorksj.ac.uk/library/guide/accessing.aspx . Or navigate there yourself from the Learning Centre homepage - using the learning centre - search for help - off campus access.

Extra help session

Busy, busy, busy!

It's another busy week on the information skills front, with sessions at all levels. However, there is still room to book in for one-to-one advice. If you would like to ask about any library issues or get some input on searching for evidence and information, please do contact me. My details are just on the right.

More information skills sessions on offer this week. The Introduction to Library and Information Services for Physios will take place on Thursday afternoon, with one of the OT sessions that morning. More details from the link below. I'll also be taking part in a lecture for the 3rd year Special Study module on Friday.

Getting into the term

I am going to be busy offering various information skills support sessions over the next few weeks, for students on all health courses, at all levels of study. I kick off this week by doing a bit of an update on information resources for the level 2 Rehabilitation and Healthcare Practice course. There is a full list of sessions below, so please check out those available for your course and level and book in!

Welcome to all of our new health students and welcome back to those who are returning. I'll be concentrating on induction sessions for those just starting with us this week. The first introduction to Library and Information Services will be in Temple Hall on Tuesday at 11am. See you there!

Web page redesign

We (that is, my colleague Lauren and I) have been busy revamping the web pages for health students over the past few weeks. I'm really trying to make sure that the information you get here is the most important for your studies, so that you don't have to sift through lots of pages that are more to do with other subjects. It's definitely a work in progress, so please let me know what you think.

New to the job!

Welcome to my new library blog! I am the VERY newly appointed librarian for Health and Life Sciences at York St John University (although I've been a librarian at YSJ for 5 years now - scary), with specific responsibility for Professional Health Studies. I am keen to get to know all of the staff and students in my area, so that I can offer the best help possible in getting research completed, degrees passed and basically making sure you are all up to date with developments in the information world.



This blog will enable me to keep you up to date with library news (both at YSJ and beyond), any info skills sessions I am offering, new and useful sources of info and anything else that I think you would like to know. In return, you can comment on sessions I have run or information I have posted, give me ideas for future ones and ask me questions.
